Lake Staking

If you have ridden Shagawa, Little Long, Burntside, Fall, Bass, Low or White Iron lakes at night, you probably appreciated being able to follow the reflective stakes. Our club puts up stakes along specific routes every one-tenth of a mile, using chainsaws to cut into the ice. We worked with Rep. David Dill and Sen. Tom Bakk to get special legislation passed a few years ago to include Shagawa, Little Long, Burntside and Lake Vermilion as part of the Grant-In-Aid program. Once lake conditions reach 12 inches of solid ice, we can receive DNR funding for grooming on those lakes and portages! Club members have attended ice safety courses put on by the National Park Service.
